Highlights of July 2013

High Ground

Right after the 4th of July, Jon went to Buena Vista, CO to a small (15 person) design conference called High Ground for some stimulating discussion about design and its role in society. The mountains in the background are the continental divide.



Hawaii

The second half of July we went to Hawaii for two weeks - one on Oahu and one on the Big Island.  First stop and a return visit for us was the Halekulani Resort on Waikiki Beach.

Nothing like a fruit drink and a beach for a great afternoon.



Three nights and we move north to Turtle Bay Resort. 





Lunch at the shrimp trucks was the height of the North Shore gourmet faire.



July 20, 2013.  Saturday, we move to Kona and take refuge in our friends' condo at Waikoloa.  First, we must stop at Costco - just like the one at home!

Sigh.  We get to rest and relax. Coffee in the morning and wine at night on the lanai. 

Lunch at the Homeowner's Grill at the Four Seasons Hotel.

 

We took an afternoon adventure north to the Pololu Valley. After lunch at the Bamboo Restaurant in Hawi we tackled the short hike down to the beach.






The next few days we explored beaches near us including the lovely Hapuna.  Evenings we could grill fish fresh from "da fish house".




July 25, 2013.  We take a trip up to the summit of Mauna Kea to catch the sunset and visit the observatories.












Our final evening before returning to the mainland, we watched the sunset sitting on the terrace of the Fairmont Orchid Hotel.
