Flying the Big Island In order to get oriented and see the volcanos of the Big Island, we opted for a Blue Hawaiian Helicopter trip out of Waikoloa Heliport. Early Tuesday morning we climbed aboard, put our earphones on and took off south easterly across the island. We cut across the infamous half million acre Parker Ranch, between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa toward Volcanoes National Park.
We flew over the Mauna Ulu Shield and on to Pu'u 'O'o vent/flows.
Up the coast from Hilo is the Waipio Valley with its lush hills and giant waterfalls.
