Highlights of May 2010 See what we were reading in May 2010 On May 10, Jon's class held final reviews in the Innovation space in Wurster hall.
The last week in May, we took a week of for a vacation in Hawaii. We have been to Hawaii many times before, but this trip we visited Lanai, a new island for us, and we spent some time at Pearl Harbor, visiting the Arizona memorial and other exhibits.
Our first day, we stayed at the Halekulani
Hotel on the water in Waikiki. We had an oceanfront 8th floor room but did not
have too much time to spend in it. Our second day, we visited Pearl Harbor and
toured the Arizona Memorial, including the submarine Bowfin, the battleship
Missouri, and the Pacific Aviation Museum.
After Oahu and Pearl Harbor we flew over to Lanai for a week. Lanai is a very small island, a former pineapple plantation with only about 3500 residents and 35 miles of paved roads. We stayed first at the Koele Lodge up in the hills near the town of Lanai city. In Koele we played tennis, hiked, and did some horseback riding.

After Koele, we went to Manele Bay, just a few
miles away, on the ocean. There we played tennis and read on the beach. The
hotel featured a lot of beautiful gardens and landscaping. |
