July was a hot month so we headed to New Mexico. We held our first High Ground unconference in Santa Fe. Care and I used the opportunuity to explore around Santa Fe and Taos.
High Ground Santa Fe
This year, we moved our annual High Ground unconference from Mike and Kathy's compound in Buena Vista, Colorado to Santa Fe, New Mexico. We rented a big house north of Santa Fe and held most of the festivities there. We also went out to Bill Mann's ranch in the desert south of Santa Fe. It was a bit of an experiment to do High Ground in Santa Fe but it worked out well. Care and I stayed near the High Ground house at Bishop's Lodge and used some of our free time to explore Santa Fe.

Taos
After High Ground in Santa Fe, we drove up to Taos for three days. We took a hike along the Rio Grande canyon, saw the Rio Grande Bridge, toured the Taos Pueblo, visited the Taos Ski area, and poked around downtown Taos. We did find a fascinating community of ecological homes, Earthship Global, outside of Taos developed by Michael Reynolds, a 1969 graduate of the University of Cincinnati Architecture School, Jon's alma mater (B. Arch. '80)
