Jon and Kate

Jon got Kate in 1980 in his last year in Cincinnati. She went with him in Ithaca and St. Louis. She came to Santa Barbara but sharing a house with huskies was too much for her and she ran away.

Asia was a "free dog" given to us by our kennel. We got Tasmania after Rizbee died. Asia and TasZ were good friends.

Jon Beard

This would have been around 1983.

I had a beard on and off from graduate school (1980) until my 50s in San Francisco. I stopped growing it out when there was too much gray.

In the early 1990s, the family used to all meet annually at my parent's house in Lake Lure, NC for "Christmas in July". This is one of our group photos. All of these kids are now grown up.

Life before Amy and Sara

Life was simpler back then - circa 1959. Maybe just before we left for Japan. Jon must have been around 3 and Jane around 1. Don around 26 and Emile around 27.

This would have been shortly before Emile died in 2008, ~76 years old.

Dad and Pap

My father, Don, and his father, Hugh (who we called Pap)

Dad must have been in his late 50s. It looks like they are at Taliesin West outside of Phoenix (Frank Lloyd Wright book is the giveaway). Pap moved there after my grandmother died. Probably around 1977 or 1978.

Walking Maw down the aisle at Amy' wedding

Maw was Jon's maternal grandmother. She died at the age of in April 2006 at the ripe old age of 95.

This would have been Amy or Sara's wedding. Maw was always worried that she would miss something.

This was while travelling in Europe in the summer 1977. I would have been 20 years old.

Care and I later returned in 1999 to the Grindelwald area for a hiking trip.

Gran was my father's mother - my maternal grandmother. It looks like I am 10 or 12 in this picture.

This was just over the hill from a lodge named Rekero, where we were staying. Although this big fella looks like he is in the wild, he is endangered and is protected by armed rangers.
